MySpace Safety Plan – Smoke and Mirrors?

Earlier today I posted about MySpace planning some structural changes to block sexual predators from abusing the social network and it’s members. A total of 49 states (in the US) will be cooperating closely with MySpace to help their plans. If you remember, there are a total of 50 states in US and which states is missing? Well, it’s Texas.

Texas Attorney General, Greg Abbott explained the reason for not participating and cooperating with MySpace at News.com.

In my opinion, it’s better to have some kind of plan than having no plan at all. As my mom used to say “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”

Kids Stepping On The Danger Zone In MySpace

This is the latest news brought by CBS that the MySpace.com networking site Is being stalked with sex predators who lure young girls to indulge in sexual activities with them. A 14 year old had been befriended by a much older man by the name of Robert Wise and asked to have sex with him. Now he is in police custody.

There are many cases of sexual assaults and death on people who are members of MySpace.com. A New Jersey mother Majalie Cajuste has lost her 14 year old daughter Judy who was murdered by a man in his twenties whom she had met through this site.

MySpace Finally Opens Its Developer Platform

The MySpace Developer Platform site offers outside developers tools to create new applications for MySpace members that will be available in March. MySpace joined other social-networking sites in opening the MySpace Web site, and the applications that developers create on the social-networking platform could reach into enterprises.

Finally! Withing several months of announcing their intent to launch a developer platform to allow developers all over the world to write applications specifically for MySpace.

Basically, The MySpace Developer Platform (MDP) provide a bunch of tools, methods and acts as a testing ground for developers to create applications.

I would like to wish everyone Happy Chinese New Year! Today is officially the first day of the Rat Year

It is common when someone celebrates Chinese New Year, a few (well, maybe a lot ) of firecrackers will be set-off and honestly I think its fun! Just make sure you take all the safety precautions and only buy the ones that is approved by the Government and don’t even think of making a DIY firecracker

MySpace to Launch a Business Incubator

Alright, this is the latest news: MySpace is planning to publicly announce that they will be launching a business incubator called SlingShot Labs. This is to let them spawn internet start-ups for news corporations expanding empire of web properties (which now includes the Wall Street Jurnal – WSJ.com and IGN – The Video Game Site).

It took about$15 million to secure the new venture which currently hires 40 emplyers which mostly consists of professional software developers.

The new MySpace Transmissions are offering the ability for every artist and labels to make exclusive video and content linked directly as a sales platform

This new feature/program is giving oppurtunity to artists to create a new tactic of promotion and profits. The first artist that’s featured is no other than the famous James Blunt.

Each and every content from MySpace Transmissions will be kept as archives. The archives will also be available via MySpace TV. Users now will have the power to choose and add content to their profile and share the videos through the network and also purchase some audio tracks

New MySpace Browser!

The Mozilla-based social web browser, Flock has made an announcement that they will be integrating with MySpace. With the help of the recent launch of the MySpace Developer Platform, the Flock users will be able to surf the web with their MySpace Friends right in their own sidebar

Only a few people were given a sneak peak at the new upcoming features that will be integrated in Flock. But still, the exact details of the features are still not known.

MySpace Acquires MySpace.co.uk Domain

Recently, MySpace has successfully acquired the domain name “myspace.co.uk”. Even though the domain name was registered by Total Web Solutions Ltd in 1197 which was 6 years before the social networking site MySpace ever existed, the decision-maker was convinced by MySpace to hand over “myspace.co.uk” to MySpace Inc.

Before this, many experts mutually agreed that to see whether a domain name was registered in bad faith is to refer initial date of registration of the domain name. It seems the ‘decision maker’ may have been drunk? I don’t know what you think but I think the ‘decision maker’ may receive a compensation by MySpace Inc

MySpace Redesign Benefits Advertisers

Though MySpace has recently implemented their latest major redesign on most MySpace pages, there are still more to come. One of the benefits from the recent redesign is that advertisers can now advertise on MySpace’s with a splash page on the homepage. MySpace & Facebook Still On Top!

MySpace still commanded nearly 74% of the social networking market, according to Hitwise. Facebook, long in second place but up 32%, pulled in nearly 15% of US social networkers, a share that towers over its nearest competitor’s.

Though the entire social networking category is down 16% over all, Hitwise research director Heather Dougherty says loyal networkers are speding more time at them. “The growing number of applications and amount of content available for social networks are driving higher average visit times.
