LASIK or 'Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis'
is a very popular surgery to correct vision. It helps a person to no longer
have to rely on vision correction such as glasses or contact lenses. It is important
to note that it cannot fix all eye problems and it does have some general risks
associated with it. Before getting LASIK surgery it is very important for you
to know what you are paying for.

During LASIK surgery the
cornea is reshaped. The cornea is the clear part of the eye and it is responsible
for how clear images are seen. When the cornea is not shaped correctly vision
is blurred or not clear.

LASIK can correct common vision problems only, not diseases. LASIK is used
to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

Surprisingly, the basic procedure of a LASIK surgery is actually simple. First
a flap is cut in the cornea and then the cornea is reshaped with a laser. Then
the flap is laid back into place and the surgery is complete.

Note that LASIK is not for everyone. If you are on certain medications, have
certain health conditions and generally have common changes to their cornea
shape (breastfeeding mothers and teenagers) are not good candidates for LASIK.

LASIK is a great option for someone in good health that is looking to end their
dependence on glasses. You will be glad to know that LASIK has a very good success
rate and a low rate of risks.
