MySpace Dominates The Social Networking Industry In 2007

While the media and Silicon Valley have lost our corporate minds over the hype of Facebook over the previous year, traffic analysts Hitwise released statistics today indicating that things are not as they might appear. Apparently, all the Facebook hoopla has not translated into a big increase in cultural web marketplace percentage among US users. Hitwise says that Myspace received 72.32% of US visits to the best ten cultural networks in December 2007, while Facebook received just over 16%. How about year over year increase? Facebook had 10.59% market share in December 2006, Hitwise says. Myspace dropped from almost 79%. It appears that cultural networking has grown in general; though Facebook posts amazing numbers of original users, in terms of pure visits Myspace is almost keeping upward with its increase.
